A Simpler, More Direct Way To Have What You Want

Happy New Year!

Now that all the holiday celebrating is over, it’s time to get down to some serious (and playful) plotting and planning about all the awesome things you want to bring into your life in 2014.

For now, forget about your goals, resolutions, list of achievements, and all the materials things you want. We’re going to approaching things differently.

woman-thinking-thumbAs ruler of your world you get to decide what your life will be, and best place to start is by asking- How do I want to FEEL in my day-to-day life, work, relationships and body? (I want to feel good.)

We’ve been taught to approach this whole process backwards. We think that if we achieve our goals and attain those things we will feel happy, fulfilled, complete, secure. (Feel Good.) But that’s not necessarily how it goes. How many of you have achieved something you wanted only to find you’re still not satisfied or disappointed with the results?

You want to lose weight because you think that losing weight will make you feel more desirable,  healthy, or worthy.

You want to write the book because you believe it will allow you to feel seen and heard, or be taken seriously.

Making an additional 100,00.00 will make you feel prosperous and secure.

If you focus on how you want to feel in your life, and then look for things that allow you to feel that way, you’d get what you want much faster.

Approaching things this way is a simpler, more direct way to have what you want (feeling good). It also opens you up to countless ways to go about getting it.

Sit down with some paper and a pen and make a list of how you’d like to feel in your life.

Some things to consider….

How do you want to feel when you first wake up and think about your day?

How do you want to feel when you are with your sweetie?

What do you want to feel like when you are working?

How about when you think of money?

How do you want to feel in your body?

Now take your list and narrow it down to 3 core desired feelings.

Write them on a post-it note and hang them where you’ll see them everyday. Let them be your guide in the choices you make throughout the year.

Once you know how you want to feel, it’s much easier to identify the things that will allow you to feel that way.

As you move through your day and are making choices about what actions to take, you can ask- is this in alignment with my core desired feelings?

My core desired feelings are engaged, expansive, and inspired. I remind myself everyday that this is how I want to feel in my life, work, and relationships. I look for different ways to experience these feelings. Making pottery achieves all three, as does coaching and writing. I make a point to do as much of these three things as possible.
